Enid White has just become William Blent's ward. He is a cruel husband and father, who has banished his only child, Lester, from the house after a violent argument in which son defended mother. Enid gets close to Mrs. Blent and to Lester, who secretly comes to visit when Mr. Blent is not around. One evening Enid is whipped by her guardian. Hours later he is found dead from a gunshot. An investigation follows.
